Next Level Chat: Our Our Meaning of the American Dream

I think it’s very unique that I don’t have a college degree and you only took a few college classes, so we aren’t the highest, most educated business school graduates, but we’re still out there. Creating our success and making it happen for ourselves. We hope that people see that and are inspired to do the same.

Of financial freedom. We hope you learn more about how to define and achieve your American dream. Here's another episode of next level American dream.

Hi, everyone. Welcome to our second chat with my dad here. We're doing these to share with you more about ourselves and our business and for you to get to know us better and get to know our business better.

Today, we're going to be talking about our podcast. Dad, can you tell us why our podcast is called next level American dream? What is behind that name?

Sean: [00:00:58] Yeah. Well, let's, I'm going to [00:01:00] start with kind of why we do a podcast, right? So,

    Abigail: [00:01:02] yeah, that's, that's a great start.

Sean: [00:01:04] the idea with the podcast is, we're kind of on a unique journey, I think anyway.

    Abigail: [00:01:08] Absolutely.

Sean: [00:01:08] You know, I'm, I'm just a regular old guy, so. For me, it's not unique, doing what I do, but adding you to the mix, it makes it unique. Right? So, you and I get to work together, which is awesome. I think most parents, almost every parent wants to work with their kids and, and help their kids create a future that they can be happy with.

And I think that's a, that's a great, privilege or I'm super lucky that you want to do that with me. So, That's one reason that I think it's unique to have the podcast so that people can get a perspective of a young person. And then someone that's been in the business over awhile, someone that's just getting started, someone that's been around for a while.

so it's kind of gives everybody kind of two sides of the coin. Right. So I think, I thought that would be great. and then for me, I think the American dream is, is, And it's a cornerstone of our entire country. Right. And I think it's alive and well and flourishing everywhere you look. Right?

    [00:02:00] Abigail: [00:01:59] Absolutely.

Sean: [00:02:00] I think the traditional American dream is no longer possible. I think, you know, going to get a good, getting a good education, getting a good job and retiring after 34 years of service with that company with your pension is just, that is just gone. You know, those, those days are over even though retirement plans and things like that.

Abigail: [00:02:18] And not that it's just dead is that it's almost not even necessary to do some of those steps. And it's not part of the American dream in the past or the traditional thinking of it. As you have to go do those things in order for you to accomplish your dream. And I don't think that that is

Sean: [00:02:35] Well, not anymore. Yeah.

Abigail: [00:02:36] As, as big of a part of it anymore.

Sean: [00:02:39] Yeah. So I don't think I'd let him saying is I don't think the traditional American dream is exists really anymore. So I think. the new American dream has a lot of different looks, right? So it's, you can do it a number of different ways. You can still go out and get a great career, and that's a great way for people to get started.

but you, you know, you still have to take financial responsibility for yourself. You have to take responsibility for [00:03:00] your own learning, your own growth, your own sort of expectations of your finances in the future and how you structure your lifestyle and all those sorts of things. you have to kind of take a handle on those things.

Now there's no. I think it's hard to just say here's my, you know, in the, in the old American dream story, like I said, you get a career and you get, you know, you can retire, right? So you don't, you didn't really have to be a financial expert. you could be a engineer and you could be a teacher and you could be other things you didn't have to really fully understand how wall street works and how these investments work and today, I think it's so important for people to understand how money works, how it impacts their life, how, they personally have to be responsible for their investments. You know, there's no one really out there looking out for you in wall street, for your investments, they, you know, you're just, you're just a, a number on a data sheet, right.

That, that they have to invest that day. Right. It's there's no, there's no sort of. Accountability there other than just get the transfers made. [00:04:00] Right.

    Abigail: [00:04:00] Right.

Sean: [00:04:01] And I think if people take a greater interest or a greater, initiative in their own personal finances, they could do much better for themselves.

Right. So this is another way for us to kind of share what we're doing. and hopefully people can either learn from it or do it themselves, or, I don't know, pick something up that they can then take and use in their life because there is so much information that they need to have now to be responsible for themselves.

I think, it's important that they have a place to learn things. So I want to try and teach somebody, you know, even if it's just one interview that we do. That someone learns how to, you know, invest in certain thing or, or, whatever it is. Yeah. Impact someone so that it makes their financial freedom more possible.

Right. That's really what I want.

    Abigail: [00:04:48] Absolutely.

Sean: [00:04:48] So the long story that'll shorten up is I love the American dream. I think it's the greatest thing in the world. And, I also know that there we're in it sort of a [00:05:00] transition of, Hey work, 30 years retire, whatever. Get your pension to now everybody has side hustles.

Everybody has to, you know, they're just, everybody's working their tails off to make it in America these days. And I think if we can help them sort of learn how to level that up. I think that's good. And that's, that's the name of the podcast next level American dream. Right. So we're hoping that we can help people get to the next level in their American dream.

And that's the story behind it.

And we try and have guests on that have accomplished that in one aspect or another, or has some sort of expertise in how people can do that

or they're working towards it, you know, like, like we're working towards it. I haven't achieved my financial freedom completely. we're working towards it still.

You're just getting started. Right. So we're just,

    Abigail: [00:05:48] I haven't even started yet.

Sean: [00:05:49] We're just getting those things. So we're working toward it. So we're really exploring our journey with everyone else and the guests that we have on, I want to talk to people that are doing that. Not necessarily the people that have accomplished it, you know, I'm not, [00:06:00] I'm not talking to bazillionaires, I'm talking to people that are in the trenches every day.

That get up and try and make their financial freedom, their financial future, their family's future better every day.

    Right. So

Abigail: [00:06:09] They're out doing it.

Sean: [00:06:10] Yeah, they're out, they're out in the grind or out in the hustle and learn their stories, you know, where they came from, the just starting corporate life. They start in college.

Where did they start? What was the catalyst for their they're changed into becoming entrepreneurs or whatever they do. so I love those stories. That's kind of the fun part.

Abigail: [00:06:28] Yeah. And we talked about this on our last one, but. We love hearing those stories, because it hopefully can say to you that you can do it believe in yourself.

We talked about believing in yourself in the last episode. And I think that that's a big part of that. And hearing about someone else doing it really can inspire someone else to, believe that in their, in themselves.

Sean: [00:06:50] Yeah. That's a good point. Yeah. So one of the biggest steps in achieving these things for yourself is believing that you can do them and seeing people that it can do them over and over again.

Just average people like [00:07:00] myself and you that are out there achieving big things for theirselves. I think that helps other people believe that they can do it as well and take the steps that they need to take. Yeah. So that's a good point. You,

Abigail: [00:07:10] yeah. And we kind of touched on this a little bit, but really what to expect out of each episode of our podcast and what we hope to inform people of as much.

And we talked about that being financial freedom and. financial tips and how other people can do that and create their dreams. So that's really what we want people to get out of it.

Well, and we're sharing. So I think for us, we're sharing our story too. So we're trying to do big things like I've, I've already had a good deal of success with my, single family real estate business, but I want to really take that to the next level.

And with apartment investing, I have essentially a hundred X my business. And so I want to show people that it's possible to just continue to go and go and go as high as you want to go. If you can't. Yeah. and so showing that our journey, I think is, is, is a good part as well, as well as showing people other people's journeys and teaching [00:08:00] them the techniques that people use to do that.

    So,

yeah. I also think it's very unique that I don't have a college degree. Well, yet. And you only took a few college classes, so we aren't the highest, most Harvard business school graduates, but we're still out there. Creating our success and making it happen for ourselves. And we hope that people see that and are inspired to do the same.

Sean: [00:08:27] Yeah. I've never been of the mindset. That college is a necessity. So for me, it's always been about work. I've had a job since I was 12 years old. And I've worked my whole life. You know, even when I was trying to go to school, I was still working full-time and supporting myself. I was on my own since I was 18.

And, no one paid my bills after age 18. So I took care of myself. And the only way to do that is to work and to go to school and work is very difficult. People do it all the time, but, for me it just became, I became more work, less college, but,

Abigail: [00:08:55] That happens with quite a few people too.

    Sean: [00:08:58] Yeah. Yeah.

But it [00:09:00] doesn't that doesn't limit your ability to be successful.

    Abigail: [00:09:02] Exactly.

Sean: [00:09:03] I think, I think that's another myth in our society is that, you have to have a college degree, you got to get the job and do those other things. And that's not true at all. I I'm, been a lifelong learner. I learn all the time. You guys kid me about it, but I'm always trying to learn something new.

I'm always on YouTube. You know, watching people do things. I'm always reading books about how to do things. I'm constantly trying to learn new information then, you know, some of it is just, things that aren't going to help me, you know, I just like to know things, you know? Yeah. so, I don't think, yeah, cost degree is as a, as a way to hold anybody back or propel you forward.

I think you still have to put in the work, but to get, to get what you need either way, either way.

Yeah. Both ways. Well, I guess that's all we have for those questions. And we hope that those things that we talked about in what we hope that you're getting out of our podcasts are actually coming true. And we hope we're inspiring you to go [00:10:00] chase your dreams.

And if not, we hope that you're learning about us and how we are doing it. So, yeah. See you next time.
