Good. How are you doing? I'm doing good. Are you ready to get into your success formula?
Sean Thomson 01:31
Yeah, sure. Yeah. It's always awkward to talk about this thing. Because I mean, I use it for my personal life. But I don't know if it's going to be beneficial to anybody. But we'll, we'll see how it goes.
Abigail Thomson 01:42
I mean, if it works for you, I'm sure it'll work for somebody else. So let's share it. Why don't we? Yeah. Okay. So for the first step in your success formula that you've laid out, first, I want to just go through what it is and all of the phases, just a quick overview, can you give us a bird's eye view of what your success formula is?
Sean Thomson 02:03
Well, it's essentially it's, it's just the path you want to go through to get started in whatever idea you want to create into a business, right? So that the idea is that you go from a thought or a dream or a goal that you have, and get to actions as quickly as possible, right. So it's just a way to kind of filter through the things necessary to go from idea or dream to, to getting to work, right. And step one is, of course, a dream, I think everybody has a dream, or an idea or goal that they want to accomplish, and how to get to that to become a business is the idea, right? And so you start with a dream, or the goal that you have the first step that really, I think for most people is to believe that they can accomplish it. And that's a struggle through a lot. Anytime I start something new, you know, am I good enough? Am I smart enough? And fast enough? Can I get this accomplished? So believing in yourself and believe me, it's possible Is this the second step, and then you have to learn how to accomplish whatever it is you're setting out to do. So you have to learn enough information to kind of get started, right. So it's dream it, believe it, learn it. And if you don't create a plan, once you have kind of the knowledge, then you're going to struggle to to be successful, right? Even if you don't have a clear direction, clear path and clear plan, or you're just going to be kind of doing stuff and you'll end up not ever accomplishing what you're trying to do. And then if you once you've planned everything, if you don't take any action, that's definitely gonna fail, right action is really the most critical. The last phase last step, so you gotta go do it. So it's in my mind, I keep track of it, as I dream it, believe it, learn it, plan it and do it. You can see it behind me, actually. So those are the five phases of creating something.
Abigail Thomson 03:46
Yeah, and we're gonna touch on all of those in the next five weeks. And today, we're gonna be talking about dream it specifically. And my first question, really, I think is, why do you feel like the dream is before the believing it? So believing it's a second step or phase? Why do you feel like dreaming is before the believing?
Sean Thomson 04:10
I don't know why it is. But it's just that's just kind of the nature of how things develop. I think everything starts with an idea or a dream or a goal that you have for what you want your life to look like. And I think everybody has those things, right? So almost all of us walk around and think to ourselves, you know, man, it would be awesome to do this or it'd be awesome to do that. And I want to I want to accomplish these things or, or whatever that is. And it's this stopping to take that dream and turn it into something real. Right? I think the dream is the easiest part because we all have those and we get they they're constantly you know, I've been released in my life. I'm always dreaming about why if I could if I could accomplish this or if I could go learn this or you know, things that I would really love to do right those dreams are constantly there. Right? It's The hardest part is taking that dream and making it something that is happening, right? It's something in your life that's real. And it's no longer a dream, it's now a part of your life or a part of your lifestyle, or, or whatever it is. That's, that's the hard part. Or having the dream is really kind of the easy part. Just you know, I think everybody walks around all day, with something they're dreaming about accomplishing or doing or having, right?
Abigail Thomson 05:27
Yeah, of course, the the list is absolutely endless when it comes to dreams. And so you have all of these dreams, but what what was the initial dream that made you go okay, this is my, this is my real dream. And now I need to create some phases that allow me to make this a reality. What was that? What was that moment? What's the dream for you in this current time?
Sean Thomson 05:52
Well, you know, ever since I was a kid, I mean, ever since. I mean, I can remember thinking about these things when I was when I was 12, or even a little kid. And I've always wanted to be successful, I won't always want to be financially successful, for some reason, I had it in my head that, you know, having money sort of gives you the freedom that you need to sort of live in this country, right. And so I've always dreamt of being successful financially, and it's evolved into something that is now I want to achieve financial independence, which is the ability to just kind of do what I need to do or want to do anytime I want, right. So in order to have that level of freedom in your life, with your time and your, and what you have going on, you have to have a certain amount of ability to pay for those things, right, you got to be you still got to get to pay for your house and your car, you know, most of us work to just pay for the things that we have in our lifestyle every day. And then we're hoping, you know, to save enough money that we can just one day stop working so hard, it's still being paid for those things, right. So for me that that dream is being able to pay for anything I want, right? At some point you're not, you know, and I'm not talking about the villas in Monaco or something like that, I'm just talking about being able to take care of a medical bill, if I have to being able to fix my car when it's broken, you know, the basics, but a little bit of a next level beyond that. Right? Right. And so for me, the dream has always been some sort of financial independence, so that I can have the freedom to do what I want to do. And really, it's that freedom, right, the time that I can have for myself to do you know, the things that I want to accomplish or hanging out with my family or, or those sorts of things. So when I say freedom, it's really the ability to control my time, and the places that I go, and the people I hang out with, right. So that's really kind of it. But that's all basic, basically, financial independence is what I might, that's my essential dream.
Abigail Thomson 07:40
Yeah, awesome. And I love how you said, hang out with your family. Because one of the ways that you have decided to make your dream a reality is to bring your family into your business, which I think is something unique and fun to us specifically. I mean, it's you and I sitting here talking about this right now anyway, so that's already part of the dream becoming trips. That's really fun. So the first phase, I want to go a little bit back to more of the success formula in broader terms. The first phase is that dream it and we just talked about that you shared with us your dream and why dream is really at the top of that formula. But why do you think it's important in your life, and then possibly another person's life, to have these phases in their mind so that they can create their reality? They take that dream and into action and make it all real, but why do we feel like it needs to happen in these phases? Why can't we just go from dreaming to do and immediately just have that instant progression? You know, why? Why are there more steps in between?
Sean Thomson 08:46
Well, I suppose you could, I mean, it depends on really kind of what your dream is. So a smaller dream that I have is learning to sail, right that dream is is not that hard. I just pick up the phone I call a sailing company, and I start classes, right, but I'm learning how to do it. I think I think it's just a natural evolution of how things work. Right? So you have this idea or dream, you have to learn how to do. I can't be a sailor, I can't just I guess I mean, I suppose you could just like I want to, I want to sail and just go buy a boat and get on the boat and figure it out. Right? But even then you're still going through the process, you have a dream, you know, you're, you're you're believing that you can do it. So you're obviously invested enough to go buy a boat and figure it out, but you're still having to learn or teach yourself how to do it. You know, and then I just think these these aren't my processes. I think they're I think they're just built in or baked into how success works. Or it's even on the simplest level. It's not just building a successful business or family or life or whatever. It's just getting things done every day. You've got to figure out how to do it and then go figure out you know, when you're going to do it and you know, so there's always these steps, right? You have to have the idea. And then you have to kind of say okay, well I'm done. accomplish this, and you got to figure it out how to do it, and then you got to go do it. Right. That's just how it works.
Abigail Thomson 10:04
Yeah. And I love how you brought it down to a little bit more of a granular, granular level. Because when you think of dreams, you're thinking of these massive concepts and your dream and specific, what you just talked about was like, financial freedom that's super, super broad, and how you can create that is, there's so many different avenues. And it can seem very overwhelming. But really, you go through this, this process of his formula, and even the smallest tasks in life. So it's really, I liked that you brought that into the conversation, because it's so much more than just like a really big dream. There's, there's tasks and thoughts and stuff in there, too. That's awesome.
Sean Thomson 10:41
Yeah, well, we're talking about it, because accomplishing big things. But this, but this formula is applicable to everything you want to accomplish, you know, you know, I fix some things around the house, let's say if I do a handyman job, run the house, I have to figure out the problem. I've got to learn how to fix it, I've got to make a plan, I've got to buy the products, I need to go do it. You know, so you're applying this all the time? You know, I use it on a grand scale. But it like you said it's for everyday little things, too. So.
Abigail Thomson 11:08
So when did you start deploying this formula into your life and start really writing it down and viewing it in these phases? Was there a moment or an experience that you had that was really saying, Okay, well, I have this dream, and I need to have some structure to how I'm going to make it happen?
Sean Thomson 11:27
Yeah, well, up until the time I was really starting to build businesses or build sort of a path in my life or build a lifestyle for myself, I would just do these things, right? You didn't, you didn't think about it, you just sort of accomplished what you need to accomplish, I have a, I have a dream, and he would go, he would just I would go through this process, but I never thought about it right? It would just happen. And when the bigger the bigger goals that I started to try and accomplish my life, I had to sit down and think about what's happening here. Because you have to be more precise, you have to be more on target, you have to be more thought out thoughtful of what you're trying to accomplish, because you're trying to accomplish those big things, right? There's so many tasks to do to accomplish the dreams that I have, because I've got to build this infrastructure, build a business, all these processes, systems, staff, people around me. So I had to start thinking about what is it I'm trying to accomplish here, and it sort of broke down from you know, and this is, this is all from several books that I've read, and and, you know, people that I've talked to and conferences, and this has been influenced from all sorts of resources, right? I've kind of made this my formula, but it's nothing new. It's been around forever. It's just how things are work. So it's something that was always there. It's just I never formulated it into steps, right. And it wasn't until I was doing bigger, bigger deals, bigger projects, bigger sort of life changes that I had to sit down and go, Okay, what is happening here? And how can I make this efficient? And how can I give myself a clearer guidance to my goals, right. And that's really what it was, I wanted to get from the dream to the actions as fast as I could. And I just start thinking, okay, how can I get from here to making this happen. And that's when the steps started detailing themselves out. To me,
Abigail Thomson 13:11
that was kind of how you came up with that, or it was influenced by a lot of people. But say, one of our listeners right now is wanting to implement this in their own lives. But they also have this endless list of dreams and ideas that they want to put through this formula. What would you think would be the best advice that you could give or a tip that you used in doing this for yourself? That will allow them to identify the dream that they want to go after first, or what they want to put through this process in the current time?
Sean Thomson 13:45
Yeah, so the dream is the anchor for everything. So that's that's the other thing that that's why it's first, I guess, the dream is the anchor for everything. So everything that you do from that point forward is always anchored from that dream, right? If whatever you're trying to accomplish the dream you have in your head, if you're trying to become a real estate investor, for example, like we did, you have to understand what it is that you want to accomplish. And for me, it's that financial independence. So my dream in my life is financial independence. And then everything else is built from that right. So having the dream initially is probably the most critical first step and being successful down the road, your dream can change and you can have different dreams and you can you can do this thing with with different paths or goals. But focusing on what you want to accomplish, and then executing the steps to accomplish that one goal or dream is really the fundamental start for everything right?
Abigail Thomson 14:36
So you really want to identify more of your your broad scope, dream and the true like very tip top of that pyramid for you in that in your life and whatever that means for you. And then trying to develop strategies and starting to believe that you can, you can do those strategies in order to accomplish your dream is that really kind of what you're what you're saying?
Sean Thomson 14:57
Well, you can have multiple dreams and the process will happen the same way, right? So you can have a dream to be, like I said, I want to learn how to sail so I can have that dream at the same time I can have I want to buy real estate, right? So I can have those dreams simultaneously. And the process will work the same. But the dream anchors the process, right? So whatever your dream is, you're gonna have a process for each one of those dreams, right? I mean, I know guys who have multiple businesses and multiple companies. And you know, just in life in general, I have dreams from how my family is going to be structured, I have dreams for my health, I have dreams for my business. So I mean, I have these dreams and the process works simultaneously. So you can do multiple dreams at one time, if you choose to. I choose to do one at a time, kind of get the process going. And then and then I do other things, right. But just in life, in general, most of us will have multiple dreams that we're trying to accomplish at the same time. And the process will be executable for those different dreams just as long as you're anchored on your dream and you keep that focal point, you can get through this process and get to success pretty quickly.
Abigail Thomson 16:02
Awesome. Well, that's a really great way to wrap up our dream episode. And so we're gonna be back next week with some strategies on how you can believe in yourself and how you have overcome some of your struggles with believing in yourself and I hope that you guys are able to identify the dream that you want to start putting into this process today.
